Why I Teach All of Them (SotW 2.10)

This week is the culmination of our poetry unit, which involves students writing a poetry analysis essay about one of three poems and taking a 15 question multiple choice test. It is critically important for investment (both mine and their’s) that my kids see progress on these essays. They have been working really hard and we need to see that pay off in a big way.

It would also be great if I could see them do well on the multiple choice even though we haven’t focused on it or really practiced it. I believe that focusing on reading and writing will lead to success on standardized tests, but at this point in the year I really need to see proof of that in the data. If I don’t see that proof, I will have some hard decisions to make in the months leading up to the End of Course test. I want to keep going the way we have been, but ultimately their graduation, my job, and our school’s continued existence is dependent on them passing that test.

Please pray that the students would be focused and driven this week and that we would all be able to see that hard work truly does lead to success.
