Why I Teach KI (SotW 2.12)

KI is one of those students that I just want to shake and say “Why are you not living up to your potential!?”  The kid is really really smart, but he just doesn’t come to school.  When he does come, he picks up on things really quickly and works hard, but it’s just not a priority for him.  He doesn’t understand why he should come to school when he could be working and making money instead.  In his mind, he already has a job, so why does he need school?

KI failed the second nine weeks and according to district policy he has this whole nine weeks to make up the work and bring his grade up to a passing grade.  Rather than have him just redo all the things we did in class that he missed, I gave him an independent assignment similar to what we did in class.  He completed it all, at a pretty high level, and then turned it in last week…2 weeks before the due date I had given him.

Please pray that KI would realize that education has value beyond just getting a job.  Pray that he would be motivated to come to school so that he can go from just being a smart kid to being an excellent student who could really do something great in life.
