Why I Teach AV and NW (SotW 2.13)

This has been a rough year for a lot of students at my school.  Marquez was killed last summer, one of my students suffered a serious injury in the Career & Technology Center, another student’s family is involved in a highly publicized and difficult murder trial right now, there was an incredibly serious car accident about a month ago, and I just got an email that one of our student’s father was killed in a car accident this weekend.  Add all of that to the pressures of not only being a teenager, but being a teenager living in poverty, and it makes for a very stressful life for my students.

Two of my students in particular are going through very difficult times right now.  AV, one of my honors girls, is not in school right because she is receiving day treatment at a behavioral health center for depression and being bullied.  Pray that the Lord would give her peace and healing so that she can return to school quickly with the strength to make it out of high school.

Another student, NW, was in the same center last week following an attempted suicide.  He is back at school, but he does not seem like the NW I am used to.  Pray that he also would find peace and healing; that the Lord would touch his life and draw him close.

My heart aches this morning for my students.  I feel so helpless in these situations.  What can I possibly do to help make their lives a little bit easier?  Sometimes I get so caught up the education side of things that I forget how many difficult things my students are really dealing with.  Please keep all of my students in your prayers.
