Welcome to Why I…, explanations of a Christian, teacher, daughter, sister, friend, and dog owner!
Who am I? Well, the subtitle says it all, but I’ll break it down for you a little more, just in case you somehow found your way here without actually knowing me in real life.
Christian
First and foremost, I am a follower of Christ. I want to spend my life falling deeper in love with Jesus and making His name great. I screw up more often than I succeed, but that’s the beautiful thing about grace. Hopefully this blog is honoring to Him (and if it ever isn’t, feel free to call me on it).
Teacher
The second biggest part of my life is my job. I teach in a private Christian school that seeks to provide a quality education for low-income students and I absolutely love it and can’t imagine doing anything else. My students crack me up, frustrate me to no end, and inspire me to achieve great things, usually all within a single class period.
Daughter & Sister
My family is awesome. You only wish yours was as great as mine. My parents have been married for almost years (and still love each other…crazy, no?) and are two of the most amazing people you will ever meet (if you are fortunate enough to meet them, that is). They both work super hard: my dad owns his own business (which you should check out at www.weshipaustin.com) and my mom is a pharmacist. My sister and her husband astound me with the amount of things they accomplish day in and day out. Now if only I could get them all to move to Memphis with me…
Friend & Dog Owner
I absolutely adore my friends and coworkers. The other teachers at my school push me to be more creative, more effective, and more determined every single day. My dog Lucy is the cutest thing ever and I love having someone to greet me whenever I walk through the door.

/ May 5, 2011Hi! I am an incoming Memphis Corps Member who loves Jesus too! I was REALLY excited to stumble upon your site! I feel like your posts will teach me a ton about TFA, faith, and the city of Memphis. I’m also planning on getting involved in Fellowship Memphis, and can already relate to many of your posts…like you were, I am in desperate search of housing/roommates! I would love to be in touch with you, through email, phone, Facebook, Skype…I’m so thankful for your blog, and I hope to hear from you soon! ~Chloe

/ August 27, 2012Hi Rachel,
I read a post of yours a Peacefulwife about sometimes avoiding married people (so good and helpful) and came to check out your blog. It is wonderful. I look forward to reading more. I was involved with City School in Austin, TX and it seems your school might be similar.
